Joell Baxter was born in Washington DC, raised in Evanston, and resides in Brooklyn. Her recent work conflates sculpture, arts and crafts, drawing, and design, using cyclic systems of color and form to explore the relationship between illusion and object. Recent exhibitions include Bronx Calling: The First AIM Biennial at the Bronx Museum of the Arts, and Through the Warp at Regina Rex in Queens. She earned an M.F.A. from the University of Illinois, where she was awarded a University Fellowship, and was a 2011 participant in the Artist in the Marketplace program at the Bronx Museum of the Arts.
