Jen Liu is a New York-based artist who was born in Setauket, NY. In her videos, paintings, and performances, real events are fabulated and fictional characters are expanded, in order to reveal the hidden desires embedded in artifacts of economic and national identity. She has recently exhibited at the Whitney Museum, New York, NY (2015); New Museum, New York, NY (2015); Berlinale Forum Expanded, Berlin, Germany (2015); Shanghai Biennial, China (2014-2015); and Coreana Museum of Art, Seoul, Korea (2015). Her grants and residencies include Para Site AIR, Hong Kong (2016); Quartier 21 AIR, Vienna, Austria (2012); Pollock-Krasner Grant (2008); Akademie Schloss Solitude, Stuttgart, Germany (2006-2007); and de ateliers, Amsterdam, The Netherlands (2003-2005). She received a B.A. from Oberlin College in Studio Art and Creative Writing (dual major), and an M.F.A. from CalArts in Art and Integrated Media (major/minor).
