Jacolby Satterwhite (b. 1986) is a New York-based artist born in Columbia, South Carolina. Satterwhite uses video, performance, 3D animation, fibers, drawing and photography as a conduit for personal and public archives/mythologies. Solo exhibitions include Matriarch’s Rhapsody, Monya Rowe Gallery (2013); The House of Patricia Satterwhite, Mallorca Landings, Palme De Mallorca, Spain (2013); and Grey Lines, Recess Art, (2013). Group exhibitions include Fore, The Studio Museum in Harlem, NY (2012); Radical Presence: Black Performance in Contemporary Art, Contemporary Art Museum, Houston, TX (2012 and 2013); and Approximately Infinite Universe, Museum of Contemporary Art, San Diego, CA (2013). Satterwhite was awarded residencies at Skowhegan School for Painting and Sculpture (2009), Fine Arts Workcenter Fellowship 1st and 2nd year (2011-2013), and Sessions at Recess Art (2013). Publications include Art In America (2013), New York Times (2012 and 2013), The New Yorker (2012 and 2013), and Art Forum (2012). Satterwhite received his B.F.A. from Maryland Institute College of Art and an M.F.A. from University of Pennsylvania.
