“Visceral …emotionally charged movements and choreography.” – The Huffington Post, March 10, 2015, Sarah Draugelis

J CHEN PROJECT is a modern dance company based in NYC, that explores identity within the human experience through creation, performance, mentoring and inspiring young artists to share their voice.
A recent work titled The Shadow and The Like examines the obsession with Social Media; the pursuit of Likes and the some times tragic consequences of navigating virtual realities with our multiple identities. Artistic Director, Jessica Chen, has been interviewed and highlighted in The Huffington Post and Dance Magazine. Chen’s work has been shown at Brooklyn Museum, New York Live Arts Studio Series, Jamaica Performing Arts Center, Ailey Citigroup Theater, and HERE Arts Center. She was honored as Keynote Speaker at Cornell University’s 2011 Celebration of Asian American Women for her work empowering female leadership within the community. She presented “If I Can Dance It, Then It’s Possible” at the 2014 TEDx organized by Semester at Sea. In 2014, Chen started a Mentorship Program devoted to giving a catered dance experience to pre-professional dancers and is designed to give aspiring dancers insight into how to shape their artistic futures. As a curator, she also organizes an annual choreographer’s festival at Dixon Place ‘TRANSLATE (voices of dance)’ and has presented numerous dance makers in NYC.
