Higher Ground Festival (HGF) is a New York-based festival to foster and enrich the art identity of Northern Manhattan by strengthening the connections between its artists and their community. As a Washington Heights and Inwood arts initiative, the festival brings together artists to network and create interdisciplinary collaborations presented locally for the annual HG Premieres Performance. Interlacing community and creation, the festival partners with several local businesses to expose HGF artists to what the neighborhood offers.
Through Meet & Greets in various cafes and restaurants, HGF offers opportunity for artists to network while introducing them to uptown venues. Upon starting the creation process for the HG Premieres Collaborations, the festival artists are given donated workspace from neighborhood dance and fitness studios. The HGF’s interdisciplinary stage-based collaborations range from Dance, Music and Theater to Magic, Beatboxing and Shadow. These events served as the Northern Manhattan Arts Alliance’s 2015 and 2016 Uptown Arts Stroll closing event.
