“Ms Welliver has the enviable ability to transform a seemingly mundane series of movements into an imagination-inspiring, fantastical world.” – Bachtrack, April 8, 2013, Rachel Rizzuto
Gwen Welliver is a New York-based dancer, choreographer, and teacher. Her work has been presented both on the stage and in gallery settings. She sees a variety of practices, teaching, researching, drawing, and writing as integral forms of dance and overtime she increasingly sees her dances as a manifestation of these other ongoing processes. She teaches at venues as varied as the American Dance Festival, P.A.R.T.S. (BE), and the Experimental Theater Wing, Tisch NYU, and also served as Rehearsal Director of the Trisha Brown Dance Company.
Her residencies include New York Foundation for the Arts Fellowship in Choreography, Manhattan Community Arts Fund, Center for Performance Research Mellon Foundation Residency, and a Museum of Arts and Design Creative Residency. Her awards include New York Dance and Performance Bessie Award for sustained achievement in dancing.
