Adam Knight and Irina Gachechiladze are two New York-based theatre directors teaming up to form the Georgian-American Theatrical Bridge. This festival presents the English-language premieres of two contemporary Georgian plays, along with six public readings of new Georgian works. Georgia is a country with a rich cultural tradition distinct from other Soviet-bloc countries and Knight and Gachechiladze aim to introduce American theatre artists and audiences to modern voices in Georgian dramaturgy. Audiences are drawn from NYC’s sizeable Georgian population by presenting works from Georgia never before staged in America.
