Edgar Serrano was born in Chicago, Illinois. He attended The School of the Art Institute of Chicago on a Presidential Merit Scholarship where he received his B.F.A. In 2010, he received an M.F.A. from Yale School of Art in Painting. Serrano locates and redirects images of certain pre-established historical and political presence, the work often seeks to complicate traditional boundaries between cultural archetypes/stereotypes. The cohesion between all of the work is an attempt to find stability by crafting a relationship to the historical and authoritative myth, that is to say a reinterpretation of modern art by using the methods of cultural abstraction. His work has been exhibited at galleries in New York, California, and Israel.
