Donna Huanca layers painting and sculpture to create large-scale installations that often serve as platforms for social, interactive, and collaborative happenings.
Born in Chicago, Donna received a BFA in Painting from the University of Houston in 2004. She has been invited to residencies at Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture, Maine; Lawndale Art Center, Houston; LMCC Workspace Residency, NYC; Art OMI, New York; and Headlands Center for The Arts, California.
Recent installations include, //> || ^ ///inX (Rua Minx) Faux Boutique, part of the exhibition, Global Fabrics Common Threads at the ISE Cultural Foundation and Intervention at Exhibition 211, both in New York City. Donna’s line of wearable sculptures have been highly profiled and sold with Andrea Zittel’s A-Z Smockshop.
At 77 Water, Donna will be working on a large-scale installation and performance for the International Incheon Women Artists’ Biennale in Incheon, Korea. Upcoming projects include a yearlong residency at the Städelschule in Frankfurt, Germany.
