Columbia Summer Winds, founded in 2002, is a New York-based community wind ensemble of all ages and experience levels engaging with the wind band repertoire through instruction, practice, and public performance. Columbia Summer Winds cultivates peer-communities of musicians and artistic leaders to foster lifelong learning and musicianship in New York City.

The ensemble has grown into a 90-musician ensemble with three conductors that has publicly performed more than 110 compositions in its history. Columbia Summer Winds hosts free concerts in New York City parks. Programs include Composer Night, welcoming composers in the program to conduct the ensemble and share insights on the group’s performance; and the biannual Outdoor Composition Contest Composers, which creates opportunities for amateur musicians and composers. Previous Composer Night composers include Michael Markowski, Johan De Meij, and Jim Territo.
