Claire Sherman (b. 1981) is a New York-based artist born in Oberlin, Ohio. Her solo exhibitions include Sequoiadendron Giganteum,Good Children Gallery, New Orleans (2013); Palms Wild, Kavi Gupta Gallery, Chicago (2011); Claire Sherman, DCKT Contemporary, NYC (2009); Downward, Pippy Houldsworth Gallery, London (2009); Claire Sherman, Galerie Hof & Huyser, Amsterdam (2009); and Brink, Kavi Gupta Gallery, Chicago (2008). Her group exhibitions include Do Not Destroy, Contemporary Jewish Museum, San Francisco (2012); Personal Tempest, UH Galleries, Hatfield, UK and Neue Galerie, Innsbruck, Austria (2011); It’s My World, Eli Ridgway Gallery (formerly Baer Ridgway Exhibitions), San Francisco (2010); Future Tense: Reshaping the Landscape, Neuberger Museum of Art, Purchase, NY (2008); and Somewhere over the Rainbow, Galleria Glance, Turin, Italy (2007). Sherman was awarded residencies by Yaddo (2011), The Marie Walsh Sharpe Art Foundation’s Space Program (2009-10), Aurobora Press (2008), The MacDowell Colony (2007), and the Terra Foundation for American Art. Publications include the Chicago Tribune (2012), Art Ltd (2011), Art Agenda (2011), The New York Times (2008), and Flash Art (2007). She received her B.A. from the University of Pennsylvania and her M.F.A. from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago.
