César Alvarez (b. 1980) is a New York-based artist born in Greensboro, NC. Alvarez writes musicals and creates multi-disciplinary performance contexts as a composer, writer, performer and producer. His performances include The Foundry Theatre’s Good Person of Szechwan (LaMaMa, Public Theater; FUTURITY (A.R.T, Walker Art Center, Mass MoCA, HERE, Ars Nova); Mac Wellman’s 3 2’s; or AFAR (Dixon Place); and Full Still Hungry (International Touring, Ford Amphitheater, Dance Motion USA).

Alvarez’s awards and residencies include Drama Desk Nomination Outstanding Music in a Play Good Person of Szechwan (2013); Berkeley Rep Groundfloor Program (2013); The Civilian’s R&D Group (2012); Commission of FUTURITY from Walker Art Center (2011); and Meet the Composer/Van Lier Fellow (2004). He received his M.B. from Oberlin Conservatory and M.F.A. from Bard College.
