“AiOP manages to spark moments of magic…without city permissions, through a bevy of volunteers and a belief that creativity is possible and even necessary regardless of limitations.” – Hyperallergic, October 14 2014, Allison Meier
Art in Odd Places (AiOP) is a New York-based group of artists led by Ed Woodham to respond to the dwindling of public space and personal civil liberties in the Lower East Side and East Village. As its ethos is sharing, openness, and accessibility, AiOP always strives to be collaborative, horizontal, constantly in motion, and free. AiOP engages New York inhabitants with socially conscious and interactive works that inspire integration of art in their daily life.
Since 2008, AiOP has produced an annual festival along 14th Street in Manhattan. The success of the festival in NYC inspired other cities in the US and internationally to host AiOP: Endicott College in Beverly, MA (2012); St. Petersburg, Russia (2012); Los Angeles, CA (2012); Sydney, Australia (2013) and Greensboro, NC.
