Amanda C. Mathis moved to New York in 2004 to attend Pratt Institute, where she received an M.F.A. in sculpture. Her work is primarily installation-based and focuses on architecture and the absence of dwelling in modern society. In 2006, she had a solo show at James Nicholson Gallery, New York and participated in Smack Mellon’s annual Emerging Artists Exhibition. Mathis also participated in the Artist in the Marketplace program at The Bronx Museum of the Arts, which concluded with a group exhibition at the museum. In 2008, she was commissioned to do a large-scale installation at Smack Mellon.
