Material Memories will be based on a series of workshops, held both indoors and outside, in which Horisaki works with local residents to create thin fabric-like latex casts of surfaces of objects and architecture. These workshops will be aimed at engaging longer-term residents in low-income housing, including the housing projects and tenement buildings in the area.

While helping participants replicate personal effects from trophies to coins, records to chinaware, and even brick or stone architecture, Horisaki encourages participants to tell their personal stories behind these objects and spaces. With their permission, residents’ stories are recorded and will be incorporated into the final iteration of the project.

July 30th, from 02:00pm – 4:00pm
