Join writers Andy Bragen, Iris Cushing, and Karen Weiser as they share readings of texts they have been working on during their LMCC Process Space residencies since July 2014. Their readings will be a wonderful opportunity to experience a variety of writing styles by three literary artists with quite diverse practices, but who share the experience of being immersed for the past five months in this retreat-style community of literary, visual and performing artists in LMCC’s Studios in the Arts Center at Governors Island.

Andy, Iris, and Karen will also be present in their studios leading up to the readings and we encourage visitors to discover more about their process and practice by visiting with them one-on-one between 12:00pm and 3:00pm on Friday.

  • Get a sneak preview of Karen’s libretto for You Who Made the Heavens Incline at
  • Heads Up: The four-part poly-vocal poem Iris is planning to share may only be appropriate for those of us who self identify as mature audiences, but will take us into a lyrical exploration of the inclusivity, initiation, belonging or exclusion we experience around participation in circumscribed clubs.
  • You can also get a taste of Andy’s previous written works – plays, librettos, lyrics and even translations – before you get to Governors Island on his website
