at LMCC Studios in the Arts Center at Governors Island

Katy Pyle and The Ballez is a performance arts group, lead by Founding Artistic Director, Katy Pyle. Katy Pyle and The Ballez create fantastical story ballets that attempt to insert the history of radical lesbian activists and art-makers into the ballet canon. In Open Studios, the ensemble will give audiences a glimpse of their latest work-in-progress, Sleeping Beauty and the Beast, a two act, two theater Ballez, united by a time-shifting street protest march, that glorifies the stories of lesbian activists: the striking Lower East Side garment workers of 1893 and the dyke members of WAC, ACT UP, and Lesbian Avengers of 1993.
