Join LMCC for an Open Studio with a canary torsi / Yanira Castro, featuring a discussion about the process of creating the visual world of a canary torsi’s new work, Court/Garden. The discussion, featuring Castro, environment/lighting designer Kathy Couch and costume designer Miodrag Gurberinic, will focus on the inspiration for and development of the visual elements and how these elements delineate the power dynamics and political structures inherent in the source material for the work.
Court/Garden is a performance that takes as its inspiration the imperial ballets of Louis XIV’s French Court, the spectatorship of the proscenium stage and the presentation of video feeds as cultural, social and political frames of experience. The audience’s relationship to the performance is in constant flux, investigating the structures behind the act of watching and being seen.
Court/Garden is commissioned and will be presented by Danspace Project on October 9-11, 2014.
Prior to the Open Studio with a canary torsi / Yanira Castro, please join us in the neighboring studio for an Open Studio with Aki Sasamoto at 1:00pm.
