 Visual Artists Writers On-Site Assistant Donna Huanca Donna Huanca layers painting and sculpture to create large-scale installations that often serve as platforms for social, interactive and collaborative happenings. Born in Chicago, Huanca received her BFA in Painting from the University of Houston and received the DeGolyer Grant from the Dallas Museum of Art the same year. She has been invited to residencies at Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture, Skowhegan, Maine; Lawndale Art Center, Houston, Texas; and L’ecole du Baoum, Grenoble, France. Recent installations include Secret Museum of Mankind at Women and their Work, Austin, Texas; 12.23.12, at Program, Berlin; Planeta de Fortuna at Meals and SUVS, London; and Philosophy of the World, Susan Ingeltt Gallery, NYC. Her work has been featured in Wire, NY Arts, Alarm Press, ARTINFO.com and Art in America among others. Upcoming residencies include Art Omi in Ghent, NY and Headlands Center for the Arts, San Francisco.

CUBAN REBELS (the Last Supper) 1967, 2007 Father’s textiles 9 x 12 feet This mural is based off a original black and white photograph obtained by my father during his service in the Bolivian Army in 1967. The characters in the piece are Che Guevara and his gang in the Bolivian jungles during their attempt to revolutionalize Bolivia. I used my fathers DNA found in his blankets, towels and clothes as raw material.
