Development & Events Intern

LMCC seeks an organized, energetic and hard-working Development & Events Intern to work with the Development Manager and Director of Development.

This internship will offer significant responsibility and valuable hands-on experience in an arts organization. The ideal candidate is highly organized, efficient, and has some experience with fundraising or events management.

Primary responsibilities include:

  • Conduct grant and sponsorship research for future LMCC projects
  • Help manage the development calendar and database
  • Process donations and draft letters of acknowledgment, as well as other correspondence
  • General administrative tasks, as directed by the Development Staff
  • Work with development team to plan upcoming receptions, funder and membership events

Qualifications:

  • Undergraduates or Graduate Students in the fields of Fine Arts, Art History, Arts Administration, or similar
  • Independent, hard-working, organized, and experienced with a background or strong interest in the arts, fundraising, or event production
  • Strong office and administrative skills; Computer experience including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint); Mac proficiency a plus
  • Available some nights and weekends for openings, special events, and performances
  • Strong writing and communication skills
  • Available 20+ hours per week
  • Type-A personalities a plus.

As a part of the team, interns will:

  • Receive university credit, if applicable
  • Have access to all LMCC events, including launch events, performances, and receptions
  • Gain first-hand experience working with development, fundraising and events planning in non-profit arts environment
  • Meet and work with artists

Productions & Operations Intern

Get a taste for all of the departments, learn the nuts-and-bolts of non-profit arts management, and learn how public art projects get realized by interning with the Operations/Production Department.

Primary responsibilities include:

  • Production assistance at public art events
  • Research and assisting with special projects for the President & Curator as needed
  • General administrative tasks as directed by the Operations and Production staff

Qualifications:

  • Comfortable with Microsoft Office for Mac; advanced knowledge of Filemaker Pro a plus
  • Excellent writing skills and a background in the arts (artists with an interest in arts administration are encouraged to apply)
  • Comfortable representing LMCC to the public in the office and on the phone, and at public art events
  • Previous office experience a plus, but not necessary

As a part of the team, interns will:

Marketing & Communications Intern

Lower Manhattan Cultural Council seeks a Marketing & Communications intern to assist the Marketing & Communications Manager. The ideal candidate is a highly organized, creative self-starter who will be comfortable working on a variety of different projects as needed.

Primary responsibilities include:

  • Preparation and staffing of LMCC cultural events including distributing materials, networking and set-up
  • Conducting research on new marketing products, such as advertising, signage, and collateral materials
  • Assisting in some basic graphic and web design projects
  • Communicating with vendors and partners such as designers, printers and venue managers
  • General administrative tasks as directed by the Marketing & Communications staff

LMCC has a fast-paced environment where interns will be exposed to every department of the organization?Cultural Programming, Grants and Services and Artist Residencies. Motivated interns will have the opportunity for increased responsibility.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree and/or education or experience in Arts Administration, Marketing, Public Relations, Communications or related fields
  • Comfortable with Microsoft Office for Mac; knowledge of Filemaker Pro a plus

Web Design & Digital Media Intern

Lower Manhattan Cultural Council seeks a web design/new media intern to assist the Web Designer and Digital Media Producer. The ideal candidate is a highly organized, creative self-starter with a background and/or interest in audio and video production who will be comfortable pitching in on a variety of different projects as needed.

Primary responsibilities include:

  • Helping to maintain our website through web page updates and blog posts
  • Help document LMCC public events all over downtown
  • Performing basic post-production work on audio and video recordings, such as logging, evaluation and mastering
  • Collecting visual research to prepare digital artwork for LMCC's website from our archives, as well as the Internet
  • Production assistance at public art events

LMCC is a small, very busy office, and interns will be exposed to every department of the organization: Development, Finance/Admin, Marketing/Communications, and Cultural Programming. Motivated interns will have the opportunity for increased responsibility.

Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with Designing With Web Standards by Jeffery Zeldman
  • Strong knowledge of Mac OS X
  • Proficient in basic web technologies (X/HTML, CSS) and web standards
  • Knowledge of advanced web technologies (Javascript, PHP, MySQL) a plus
  • Knowledge of audio and video editing software (Final Cut Pro, Logic, GarageBand, ProTools) required
  • Knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite tools (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign) preferred
  • Working knowledge of website content management systems
  • Excellent organizational skills and a background in the arts
  • Strong attention to detail and elements of design

Grants & Services Intern

Lower Manhattan Cultural Council seeks a grants and services intern to assist the Grants and Services Department with the administration of its Manhattan Grant Programs and its professional development services for artists. This is an excellent opportunity for those interested in learning about how regrant programs work, and about the professional resources artists need. The position is hands-on, and involves direct contact with numerous artists and arts organizations.

The ideal candidate is a highly organized, creative self-starter with a background and/or interest in the arts who will be comfortable pitching in on a variety of different projects as needed.

Primary responsibilities include:

  • Scheduling and tracking audits of grantee projects including performances, exhibitions and other arts events and in some cases, conducting audits
  • Receiving and tracking information on grantee events
  • Receiving and archiving grantee project images & documentation
  • Assistance with monthly professional development workshops and grant information sessions
  • Assistance in planning and execution of annual grantee celebration in May
  • Assistance with dissemination of information on grant programs
  • Departmental correspondence
  • Grant data entry and updates
  • Filing, faxing, and copying as needed

LMCC is a small, very busy office, and interns will be exposed to every department of the organization: Development, Finance/Admin, Marketing/Communications, and Cultural Programming. Motivated interns will have the opportunity for increased responsibility.

Artist Residencies Intern

Lower Manhattan Cultural Council seeks an intern to assist the Residency and Swing Space staff. The ideal candidate is a highly organized, creative self-starter with a background and/or interest in visual or performing arts or arts administration who will be comfortable pitching in on a variety of different projects as needed.

Primary responsibilities include:

  • Assisting with residency applications including data entry, pre-screening, and organization of work samples for the panel review
  • Researching artists, art organizations, and artist resources for department databases as well as to disseminate to residents, inquiring artists, etc.
  • Compiling information about application opportunities and events for outreach to artists, curators, schools, the media, and the public
  • Assisting staff at public events including weekly salons, open houses, open studios, exhibitions, and performances, including such duties as tracking guest lists, preparing print materials, and attending to catering needs
  • Helping to ensure the maintenance of our various artist spaces throughout Lower Manhattan including day-to-day assistance with artists' access, routine space needs, supplies and visitors.

LMCC is a small, very busy office, and interns will be exposed to every department of the organization Executive, Development, Finance/Administration, Marketing/Communications, Grants and Services, and Cultural Programming. Motivated interns will have the opportunity for increased responsibility.

Qualifications:

  • Strong knowledge of Mac OS X
  • Knowledge of FileMaker Pro, Microsoft Office, Internet research, familiarity with Adobe programs a plus
  • Knowledge of or interest in contemporary art and artists
  • Strong attention to detail
  • A/V, light carpentry and/or other hands-on technical skills welcome
